Campaign »Headache Hurts« for headache prevention [ZIES powered by Barmer]
PROJECT
CORPORATE DESIGN, INFOGRAPHICS, EDITORIAL DESIGN, WEB DESIGN AND APP DESIGN

Approximately 64 percent of the 2.8 million students at German universities suffer from headaches. To address this situation, BARMER health insurance funded a campaign by ZIES gGmbH, which aimed to inform students about different types of headaches, their triggers and how to prevent them.
The project’s biggest challenge was to link the scientific background of the content with the perceptual habits of the young target audience. The design needed to appeal to young people while also highlighting the value of the information presented in the brochure, website and app.
To achieve this, the concept was developed in close collaboration with the ZIES gGmbH team and further refined during joint workshops throughout the design process. Simultaneously, it was my task to create a name for the campaign, impactful headlines, a contemporary typographic concept, a series of icons and infographics and the design of a website, brochure and app.
The project thrives on a balance between minimalist design and graphic details that ensure recognition across all media. The high acceptance among students and the continuous demand for the brochures available in both German and English underscore the relevance and success of this campaign.

MAKING OF
When a project requires conveying extensive content, minimalism becomes one of a designer’s best friends for creating clarity through reduction.
Another principle of minimalist design is the limitation to a few design elements. For example, the entire design uses only one typeface, structured by varying font sizes and the alternation between uppercase and lowercase letters.
As a designer, it can sometimes be challenging to ensure that the final result matches the initial vision. However, one lesson I learned from this project is that solutions rarely fall from the sky; they often approach quietly and subtly.
